Halcyon

Interred, rubble encased

stagnated without breath of warm wind to kiss ravaged skin

sun stained, mottled and muted

aching to brush off dust and taste humanity once more

Just one exhale

then still

one inhale

to mute voices long lost on the winds circulating around cavernous unused caves within my skull
Those I’ve loved
Those I’ve lost
Those I trampled to ash beneath calloused bare feet in the name of
I
Sweet, bitter, unfurling roots poised for inevitable heartbreak

as the world turns above this shallow grave I rot within

Put me out of my misery people!
