Till death

When we are ash and bone
will the stars lament for us?
a requiem in all but dust
but we don’t die alone

when flesh strips and departs
will our souls fly?
to dance upon the milky way
and cwtsh the kissing crimson dawn

Will we burn in the lair of underworlds
Where cerebrus waits unseen
growling in forbidance
of our right to journey?

Has the ferryman
been waived his golden gains
and ill begotten remnants
shattered in history

when we are ash and bone
we’ll lay beneath the stars
as orpheus collects his dues
and we’re free to find home

  1. I like the questioning throughout. The certainty in the last stanza sort of threw me off, but it’s a beautiful idea. I’m also quite fond of your allusions. Well done.
