On plush leather chairs,
And air conditioned avarice,
They sit and decide our fates.
These suits.
These heirophants of ettiquette.
Below in the streets,
People fight for aid sent
from overseas.
They throw money at the armed
well muscled guard.
Begging,
Mercy,
My child is ill.
My family starves.
Coffee is served.
With ginger biscuits.
Ties are loosened,
And money exchanged.
Not pennies,
Like below.
Uncomfortable laughter.
As consciousness
becomes a figment
and a bank balance.
A memory.
Sad but true xx hope you’re getting you’re arse back into blogging **hugs** I’ve missed you!
You only saw me last week!

Uncomfortable laughter…
That was a powerful line.
nice write on the seperation between the haves and the have nots…a sad reality in the world in which we live…nice one shot!
I agree with Brian, you painted the two pictures very well. It felt like I was there albeit in the boardroom.
Too-relatable sentiment on this one, LOL. Indelible work that engages all the senses. Excellent, excellent, excellent.
Did I mention it was excellent?
You did and just at the right time I required an ego massage!
“As consciousness becomes a figment and a bank balance a memory” I think your poem paints an accurate portrait of what many are now living through.
You nailed it!
Fascinating writing, and so sadly true to this world as well. Excellent OneShot! 🙂 April
thanks for linking,
so beautiful job done on greed in different status…
Theme for potluck so aptly used here..full of imagery and so much truth in your words. Thanks for linking my friend xxx
Thanks! Always good to meet new poets and authors
First rate protest poetry. It’s time for the poets to raise their voices again for truth, justice, equality. Power and greed are always in cycle seeking to corrupt our society. Thanks, Gay @beachanny
This sadly is a worldwide reality that too many are unaware of.
You penned it with such a perfect picture of the disparity between the two realities
Nice One Shot
Just a reminder that we would love you to enter the One Stop Competition (ends oct 22).

Wow! what a wonderful piece of writing!
‘On plush leather chairs,

These suits.
These heirophants of ettiquette.’
So true… and so elequently and poetically put! – brilliant.
Very curt and cutting… I liked the way you have said things like “a bank balance a memory” etc… thanks for sharing..

ooooh. I really liked this. Love and Light, Sender
sad but true…uncomfortable laughter..coffee and ginger biscuits…a vivid description of what shouldn’t exist but unfortunately is everyday reality
Nice One Shot!
Loved this One Shot, great detail (ginger biscuits) and juxtaposition of tragedies (illness, starving) with luxury (coffee, etc). Great work!
Powerful words… a very sad reality expressed articulately… a pleasure to read.
wanted to stop by again and thank you for stopping by One Shot this week. It is because of poets like you that we have such inspiring words to read. Please feel welcome any Wednesday
